The ideal tight for most of your winter riding, the Velocissimo is focused on comfort for riding in mild to cool conditions. We've used our Thermoflex fabric for most of the tight. It's not our warmest fabric, nor does it repel water like Nano Flex, but it is the softest, stretchiest winter tight fabric. The comfort is immediate and lasting. For the lower leg from just below the knee, we switch to our Nano Flex fleeced stretch-woven fabric that's both warm and highly water repellent for protection against spray coming off wet roads. In the age of smart trainers and social training simulators, many of us spend winters training indoors. The Spring Fall Gloves are a bellwether for that approach, maintaining warmth and dry, breathable comfort in cool-to-cold conditions and, when conditions exceed their insulating capacity, letting us know when it's time to retire to the pain cave for winter. If you're looking for just one jacket to do it all, start here. We used our lightest GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER three-layer stretch fabric, which makes it great for milder conditions, and the stretch gives it a great fit. It's the same outer fabric as we use for our Alpha RoS 2 Jacket, called "The benchmark in how the best winter jackets should perform" by Cyclingnews.com, but the Go Jacket forgoes the Alpha's integrated liner so you can decide how much insulation you need. Add a Flanders Warm base layer and thermal jersey to extend the comfort range to subfreezing temperatures. But the fabric is only the start. We've tailored the fit to be close to body but not too close. It gives a good drape to the jacket, rounded out by details like the no-sew finishing to the hem and the zippered colored chest pocket. The hidden internal cuffs are a nice comfort touch, and you'll appreciate how they eliminate drafts from the wrist. There are three pockets on the back, with a large reflective strip stretching across the entire bottom of the pockets for nighttime visibility. Where does this jacket fit in our line? It brings together three different fabrics for fit as well as comfort. The main jersey fabric is a soft 100% polyester micromesh with Castelli's prosecco wicking treatment to keep you dry. Side panels are in a stretch mesh for ventilation and improved fit. The sleeves are lifted directly from Castelli's pro race jersey, but in this case because the four-way-stretch fabric with raw-cut sleeve endings is as comfortable as it is aerodynamic. IF YOU HAD JUST ONE JACKET The Perfetto RoS is the one jacket that does everything well. We initially designed it as a cool-weather training and extreme-weather race piece for our pro riders, but in reality, it excels in many conditions thanks to its full wind protection, great fit through stretchy fabrics, and best-in-class breathability. Winter 2019 represents the biggest performance upgrade in the four generations of this jacket. RoS in the name signifies Rain or Shine. The emphasis should be on dry-weather comfort, which is where this jacket really excels, but then you get near waterproof protection if you do get caught in the rain. We worked with Gore to develop two new Castelli exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM WINDSTOPPER fabrics. We use a light fleece-lined water-resistant version on the forward-facing surfaces and a lighter, stretchier fabric on the back that maintains the breathability of the previous fabric while improving water repellency at the same time. The Perfetto RoS is that ideal weight: no built-in insulation so you can layer over a light base layer for moderate conditions. Or you can add a thermal jersey underneath and take it to very cold conditions. You decide. Innovative evolution The Free Aero RC Bibshort is our top race short, which also means that it's insanely comfortable even if you never pin on a number. It's fair to say that we've been working on this short for the past 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original free aero race bibshort was first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race short. Since then it has won three Tours de France, three Gri d'Italia, one Vuelta, and San Remo, but it also became the best-selling product in the history of Castelli because, simply put, this is the short that does everything well. The concept is quite simple: start with the best pad we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that's not absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams. In fact, the short portion has just 5 panels compared to 10 in the previous generation. You feel free because of further refinements to the Progetto X2 air seamless seat pad. The two densities of foam plus the gel pads provide progressive damping, while the separate skincare layer is soft and stretchy to move with your skin. You feel free thanks to the most minimal bibs you've ever seen in a short, including open-weave straps for maximum airflow.
