The staple for riding in the transitional seasons, provides mid-level insulation and light padding without erasing bar feel. In the age of smart trainers and social training simulators, many of us spend winters training indoors. The Spring Fall Gloves are a bellwether for that approach, maintaining warmth and dry, breathable comfort in cool-to-cold conditions and, when conditions exceed their insulating capacity, letting us know when it's time to retire to the pain cave for winter. The brushed Lycra material is the same as the insulating liner in our Ultraz gloves. It's appropriate for both applications because of its lightly insulating and moisture-wicking properties. Pull tabs make for easy on/off, despite a sleek, anatomically precise cut that eliminates bunching. An extended cuff reduces gaps between glove and sleeve.

If you're looking for just one jacket to do it all, start here. We used our lightest GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER three-layer stretch fabric, which makes it great for milder conditions, and the stretch gives it a great fit. It's the same outer fabric as we use for our Alpha RoS 2 Jacket, called "The benchmark in how the best winter jackets should perform" by Cyclingnews.com, but the Go Jacket forgoes the Alpha's integrated liner so you can decide how much insulation you need. Add a Flanders Warm base layer and thermal jersey to extend the comfort range to subfreezing temperatures. But the fabric is only the start. We've tailored the fit to be close to body but not too close. It gives a good drape to the jacket, rounded out by details like the no-sew finishing to the hem and the zippered colored chest pocket. The hidden internal cuffs are a nice comfort touch, and you'll appreciate how they eliminate drafts from the wrist. There are three pockets on the back, with a large reflective strip stretching across the entire bottom of the pockets for nighttime visibility. Where does this jacket fit in our line? The name velocissima means "very fast" in Italian, and indeed there's a lot of speed in this jersey, even though it wasn't designed as a race jersey. It brings together three different fabrics for fit as well as comfort. The main jersey fabric is a soft 100% polyester micromesh with Castelli's prosecco wicking treatment to keep you dry. Side panels are in a stretch mesh for ventilation and improved fit. The sleeves are lifted directly from Castelli's pro race jersey, but in this case because the four-way-stretch fabric with raw-cut sleeve endings is as comfortable as it is aerodynamic. The velocissima jersey is not lacking in technical details, but it was also designed to look good. The fabrics are piece-dyed for rich color, and then they get a sublimated overprint for the tone-on-tone graphic over the shoulders. IF YOU HAD JUST ONE JACKET The Perfetto RoS is the one jacket that does everything well. We initially designed it as a cool-weather training and extreme-weather race piece for our pro riders, but in reality, it excels in many conditions thanks to its full wind protection, great fit through stretchy fabrics, and best-in-class breathability. Winter 2019 represents the biggest performance upgrade in the four generations of this jacket. RoS in the name signifies Rain or Shine. The emphasis should be on dry-weather comfort, which is where this jacket really excels, but then you get near waterproof protection if you do get caught in the rain. We worked with Gore to develop two new Castelli exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM WINDSTOPPER fabrics. We use a light fleece-lined water-resistant version on the forward-facing surfaces and a lighter, stretchier fabric on the back that maintains the breathability of the previous fabric while improving water repellency at the same time. The Perfetto RoS is that ideal weight: no built-in insulation so you can layer over a light base layer for moderate conditions. Or you can add a thermal jersey underneath and take it to very cold conditions. You decide. The Perfetto family features are all there: excellent fit, easy-sliding YKK zipper, long tail to protect from wheel-spray, reflective panel on the back, and discreet styling that belies the jacket's racing pedigree. Innovative evolution The Free Aero RC Bibshort is our top race short, which also means that it's insanely comfortable even if you never pin on a number. It's fair to say that we've been working on this short for the past 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original free aero race bibshort was first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race short. Since then it has won three Tours de France, three Gri d'Italia, one Vuelta, and San Remo, but it also became the best-selling product in the history of Castelli because, simply put, this is the short that does everything well. The concept is quite simple: start with the best pad we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that's not absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams. In fact, the short portion has just 5 panels compared to 10 in the previous generation. You feel free because of further refinements to the Progetto X2 air seamless seat pad. The two densities of foam plus the gel pads provide progressive damping, while the separate skincare layer is soft and stretchy to move with your skin. You feel free thanks to the most minimal bibs you've ever seen in a short, including open-weave straps for maximum airflow. But we reinforced the yoke so the straps stay in place and made the mesh back narrow for coverage that is minimal yet just enough to hold the shorts in place. And the bib elegantly frames a convenient pocket at the center back. You feel free because this is the first high-end short that doesn't need any sort of gripper or elastic at the end of the leg to keep the leg in place. Getting this right meant 28 prototypes and our most extensive test program ever, and it results in the most comfortable leg ending we've ever made.
